Police Arrest Two Suspected Killers of Aiyedatiwa Campaign Coordinator

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two men in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Alaba Abe, a politician and Coordinator of the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation in Akoko South West Local Government Area. The incident occurred in April 2024, when Abe was abducted and killed by gunmen outside his house in the Supare Akoko community.

SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Police Command, confirmed the arrests on Friday. The suspects, Mohammed Sheu (21) and Abubakar Umar (24), were apprehended by the Special Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Command.

The arrest followed an operation on November 14, 2024, when police intercepted a Hiace vehicle at the Ikare Junction. During a search of the vehicle, Sheu’s suspicious behavior led to his interrogation. A voice note found on his phone revealed communication with an accomplice, indicating Sheu’s involvement in criminal activities, including kidnapping for ransom.

Sheu, upon questioning, confessed to his involvement in various kidnappings and robberies across several locations, including Kogi, Niger, Akoko, Ifon, Ipele, and Owo. His operations typically involved identifying victims, abducting them from their homes, and demanding ransom.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Umar, who also confessed to similar crimes as a member of the gang. The suspects admitted responsibility for the April 2024 kidnapping and murder of Alaba Abe, as well as another kidnapping incident in September 2024 at a popular hotel in Owo.

The police have continued their investigation and are making efforts to apprehend other members of the gang involved in the killing.
