ICPC Chairman Bags Excellent Leadership Award in Anti-Graft Campaign

Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), was awarded the Excellent Leadership Award in Anti-Graft Campaign at the 2024 Annual Lecture and Award Ceremony organized by the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) in Lagos. He was honored for his exemplary efforts in combating corruption in Nigeria.

During the event, which he was represented at by ICPC Spokesperson Mr. Demola Bakare, Dr. Aliyu delivered a keynote address titled “Justice System Administration and Insecurity in Nigeria: Challenges, Opportunities, and Solutions.” In his speech, Dr. Aliyu addressed the many issues facing Nigeria’s justice system, such as insufficient funding, outdated infrastructure, corruption (particularly bribery), poor record-keeping, and inadequate use of technology. He stressed that these inefficiencies contribute to delays in justice delivery and exacerbate public dissatisfaction.

He also highlighted the relationship between insecurity in Nigeria and the overwhelmed justice system, pointing to challenges like Boko Haram, organized crime, and kidnappings. Dr. Aliyu proposed reforms to improve the justice system, including the adoption of digital technologies, upgraded infrastructure, continuous training for judicial officers, and the strengthening of oversight bodies like the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the Judicial Service Commission (JSC). He emphasized ICPC’s role in promoting behavioral change to address corruption and called for improved public engagement to tackle misinformation regarding justice and security.
