PDP NWC Dismisses Ugochinyere’s Expulsion as “Null and Void”

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the expulsion of Ugochinyere Ikeagwuonu, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency, by the Imo State chapter of the party.

Ugochinyere had been suspended on December 5 by the Ideato Local Government Area (LGA) chapter of the PDP for alleged indiscipline and anti-party activities. However, just hours after the suspension, the PDP NWC issued a statement nullifying the expulsion.

The NWC, in a statement by its spokesman Debo Ologunagba, declared the expulsion “null and void” as it was inconsistent with the party’s constitution. It referenced Sections 57 (7) and 59 (3) of the PDP Constitution, emphasizing that only the National Working Committee has the authority to suspend, expel, or discipline a National Assembly member, and that such actions must be in accordance with the party’s constitutional procedures.

The NWC also reaffirmed that Ugochinyere remains a full-fledged member of the PDP, with all associated rights and privileges, and called on party leaders and members in Imo State to disregard the expulsion. The party reiterated its commitment to upholding its constitution and rules and ensuring they are strictly followed at all levels.
