Man Arrested After Trying To Divert Mexico-Bound Flight To US
A 31-year-old man was arrested on Sunday after attempting to divert a flight from Mexico to the United States. The Airbus A320, traveling from Leon, Guanajuato to Tijuana, was diverted for an emergency landing at Guadalajara International Airport after the man assaulted a flight attendant and attempted to enter the cockpit.
The suspect, who was reportedly traveling with his family, claimed that a close relative had been kidnapped and threatened with death if he continued the flight to Tijuana. The crew managed to subdue the man, and an emergency landing was initiated.
After the arrest, the flight resumed its journey to Tijuana. The incident occurred amid rising violence in Guanajuato, a region heavily affected by drug cartel activity, including extortion and kidnapping. The number of passengers on the flight was not specified in the report.
