APC Aims to Win Rivers State in 2027, Says Ganduje

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has declared the party’s determination to wrestle Rivers State from the control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking in Port Harcourt on Saturday during the inauguration of the newly constituted APC State Working Committee, Ganduje emphasized the party’s commitment to expanding its influence in the South-South region.

Building Momentum for 2027

Accompanied by senior party officials, including the APC National Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom, Ganduje stressed the importance of strengthening the party’s presence in Rivers. Giadom, echoing the chairman’s sentiments, declared that the APC is “gearing up to take over the state.”

The APC currently governs two states in the South-South and is targeting Rivers to increase its foothold in the region.

Controversies Surrounding the Leadership

The inauguration of the state working committee comes amidst unresolved legal disputes over party leadership in Rivers. The APC National Working Committee (NWC) recognizes the Tony Okocha-led Exco, but a court ruling affirming Emeka Beke as the party chairman has yet to be vacated.

Despite these uncertainties, the party’s National Legal Adviser administered the oath of office to the newly inaugurated Exco members. The leader of the new committee praised the team’s efforts, reaffirming their commitment to the party’s goals.

Ganduje’s Vision for Rivers

Ganduje outlined his vision to bring Rivers under APC control, stating that the party’s focus is on uniting its members and resolving internal disputes ahead of the 2027 elections. He urged the new Exco to begin mobilization efforts immediately to strengthen grassroots support across the state.

Strategic Focus

The APC’s push to capture Rivers reflects its broader strategy to consolidate power in the South-South, with Ganduje emphasizing that winning the state would significantly boost the party’s regional influence.

However, the lingering leadership tussle remains a potential challenge for the party’s efforts as it prepares for future elections. Party leaders have hinted at ongoing efforts to resolve the internal disputes to ensure unity within the state chapter.

This development sets the stage for a fierce political contest in Rivers State, as the APC intensifies its preparations to challenge the PDP in 2027.
