Federal Gov’t Renames UniAbuja to Yakubu Gowon University

The Federal Government has announced the renaming of the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) to Yakubu Gowon University in honor of General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), Nigeria’s former Head of State, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday.

The decision was revealed by the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu on Monday.

The proposal will now be forwarded to the National Assembly for formal approval. This renaming is a tribute to the former leader, recognizing his contributions to the nation.
