215 Niger Delta Communities To Benefit From PINL’s CSR Initiative
No fewer than 215 communities in the Niger Delta region will benefit from the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme organized by Pipeline Infrastructure Nigeria Limited (PINL).
PINL, a surveillance contractor for the Trans Niger Pipeline (TNP), operates across communities in Abia, Bayelsa, Imo, and Rivers States.
Speaking in Port Harcourt on Monday, Ms. Deborah Okunbo, the CEO of Learn & Leadwise Resources Limited—consultants to the programme—announced that 35 communities in Eleme, Gokana, Bonny, and Tai local government areas of Rivers State have already benefited from the initiative, which officially began on Monday.
Relief Efforts and Community Support
Okunbo stated that each benefiting community in the Niger Delta region will receive at least 20 bags of rice and beans, as well as biscuits for children. Additionally, flood-affected communities will receive relief materials to help mitigate the impact of recent natural disasters.
“This CSR programme is part of a bouquet of events planned for host communities in this round of initiatives, which has been integral to PINL’s operations since its inception,” she said.
Employment and Community Engagement
Since starting operations as the surveillance contractor for the Trans Niger Pipeline three years ago, PINL has actively encouraged host communities to take ownership of the pipelines passing through their territories, ensuring their safety and sustainability.
The company has employed thousands of youths from host communities, providing jobs at various levels of pipeline surveillance. Additionally, PINL has maintained continuous engagement with paramount rulers, chiefs, Community Development Committee (CDC) chairmen, youth groups, and women leaders to strategize on combating pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, and illegal refining (locally known as Kpo Fire).
Biometrics and Empowerment
Recently, PINL embarked on a biometrics data-capturing initiative for community leaders to update its database and ensure inclusive community relations and empowerment programmes.
“PINL, as a responsible and caring company, consistently provides support and relief to host communities during disasters, demonstrating its commitment to their well-being,” Okunbo added.
Positive Impact
This CSR initiative underscores PINL’s dedication to fostering sustainable development and empowering its host communities in the Niger Delta region while enhancing the safety and security of the vital Trans Niger Pipeline infrastructure.
