15 Suspects in Police Net for Setting Bauchi School on Fire
Bauchi State Police Command has arrested 15 suspects allegedly involved in the burning of a block of a primary school in Kandahar, located at the heart of Bauchi metropolis.
The incident followed a clash between local thugs and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) in the area. In addition to the school, the attackers also set ablaze the CJTF office building nearby.
Details of the Incident
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Sunday.
- Clash with CJTF: The altercation reportedly escalated when CJTF members confronted the attackers, leading to one of the assailants, Saidu Musa (22), sustaining a gunshot wound to the chest from a locally-made firearm.
- Medical Treatment: Musa was promptly taken to Bauchi Specialists Hospital for medical attention.
Police Action
SP Wakil condemned the incident, urging residents to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to report any grievances to appropriate authorities.
- Investigation Ordered: Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Mohammed, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the arson.
