Suspect Dies in Kwara Police Custody as Command Launches Probe
A middle-aged man, Jimoh Abdulquadri, passed away on Friday while in police custody in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Abdulquadri was reportedly detained at a police division’s headquarters following allegations of fraud involving a sum of ₦220,000. The complaint, lodged at a local police station, accused the deceased of obtaining money by false pretense.
Police Response
The Kwara State Police Command has acknowledged the incident and initiated an investigation to determine the cause of Abdulquadri’s death.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command’s spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the tragedy, stating:
“The Kwara State Police Command is aware of an unfortunate incident that led to the tragic loss of one Mr. Jimoh Abdulquadri, which occurred on 20th December 2024.”
She added:
“The deceased was invited on an alleged case of obtaining money by false pretense to the sum of ₦220,000. Discrete investigations into this incident have commenced to ascertain the cause. Further developments will be communicated as the probe progresses, as no stone will be left unturned.”
