JUST IN: Federal Government Declares December 25, 26, and January 1 Public Holidays

The Federal Government has officially declared Wednesday, December 25, and Thursday, December 26, 2024, as public holidays to celebrate Christmas and Boxing Day, respectively. Additionally, Wednesday, January 1, 2025, has been designated as a public holiday for New Year’s Day celebrations.

This announcement was made on Monday morning by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the federal government. In a statement signed by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Minister conveyed warm greetings to all Nigerians, encouraging them to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity that the festive season embodies.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended his felicitations to Christians and Nigerians both at home and abroad, urging them to emulate the life of Jesus Christ by practicing humility, service, compassion, and patience.

He emphasized the significance of peace and security as prerequisites for economic growth and prosperity. He also assured citizens that the Federal Government, under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, remains committed to implementing effective security measures to safeguard lives and property across the nation.

The Minister called on Nigerians to be vigilant during the festive period, advising them to report any suspicious activities or individuals to nearby security agencies. He highlighted the importance of discipline in ensuring the safety of communities and the nation during the celebrations.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also expressed hope for a brighter future, stating that 2025 will bring renewed optimism under President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda. He described the Christmas season as a time for both spiritual reflection and national renewal, encouraging Nigerians to demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, regardless of differences.

Concluding his statement, the Minister wished all Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2025, expressing confidence that the coming year would usher in economic prosperity and stability that would be the envy of the world.
