Nigeria Moving Forward, Critics Won’t Derail Progress – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that the country is on a path to progress despite criticisms of his administration’s economic policies and reforms.

During his maiden Presidential Media Chat on Monday night, Tinubu expressed confidence in the nation’s trajectory, highlighting key achievements and outlining plans for the future.

“Nigeria is moving forward, regardless of critics,” Tinubu stated, emphasizing that his government has taken bold steps to stabilize the economy, promote local governance, and tackle security challenges.

Economic Reforms and Financial Stability

The President detailed strides in reducing debt servicing, enhancing fiscal discipline, and increasing revenue. He noted that his administration has curtailed uncontrolled borrowing, particularly through the discontinuation of the Ways and Means facility, a move he described as pivotal for financial stability.

“I brought debt service down. Give credit, please. We are managing it,” Tinubu said. He also pointed out that local governments have been empowered to drive grassroots development through reforms promoting autonomy.

Security Improvements

Addressing national security, Tinubu praised the Armed Forces for their efforts in combating threats across the country.

“We have a vast country with many forests and ungoverned spaces. Give them credit. I am proud of what they are doing. There’s no need for probes,” he affirmed.

The President emphasized ongoing investments in the welfare and capacity of security personnel to ensure long-term stability.

Tackling Inflation and Promoting Local Solutions

Tinubu called for a shift toward local solutions to address inflation and stimulate economic growth. He urged increased agricultural production to reduce reliance on imports and highlighted the need for farmer-friendly policies, including low-interest loans and improved security to enable a return to farming.

“Produce more for consumption locally. Stop imports. Give farmers reasonable, low-interest rates and improve security so they can return to their farms,” he advised.

The President identified agriculture, marine ecosystems, and transportation as key sectors for job creation and cost reduction.

2025 Budget: A Vision of Hope

Reaffirming his commitment to a prosperous Nigeria, Tinubu described the proposed 2025 budget as a “Budget of Hope” aimed at addressing critical issues and laying the foundation for sustainable growth.

“We are moving forward,” he reiterated, urging Nigerians to support the government’s efforts and remain optimistic about the nation’s future.

The President’s remarks underscore his administration’s determination to navigate challenges and foster progress for all Nigerians.
