Bauchi Police Assures Hitch-Free Christmas, New Year Festivities

The Bauchi State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property during the upcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The Federal Government has declared December 25 and 26, 2024, as public holidays for Christmas and Boxing Day, along with January 1, 2025, for New Year festivities.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Auwal Musa Muhammad extended his warm greetings to residents, particularly the Christian community, as they celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

The CP reassured the public that robust security measures have been put in place to guarantee peaceful festivities, urging residents, religious leaders, and worshippers to cooperate with the police and other security agencies.

Comprehensive Security Measures

According to the statement, the Command, in collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders, has deployed sufficient personnel to key locations across the state.

“To this end, the Commissioner of Police has mandated the deployment of sufficient personnel, including conventional police and tactical teams, along with necessary logistics, to ensure comprehensive security at all strategic locations within the state,” the statement read.

Personnel deployed for the task have been directed to conduct themselves with professionalism and civility while carrying out their duties.

Festive Period Strategy

CP Muhammad also instructed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and departmental heads to implement covert and overt security operations aimed at safeguarding lives and property.

Security measures include:

  • Enhanced security coverage at places of worship and recreational centres.
  • Proactive patrols in identified trouble spots.
  • High-visibility policing and strategically positioned patrol vehicles along highways.
  • Deployment of undercover operatives and foot patrol officers in all areas.

“All police divisions have been directed to strengthen their neighbourhood policing strategies to provide a seamless celebration period,” the statement added.

Emergency Response

In case of emergencies, residents are encouraged to contact the police using the Police Rescue Me App or reach out via the emergency lines 08151849417 and 09053872273.

The CP urged citizens to use the festive period as a time for reflection, prayer, and goodwill toward the peace, unity, and progress of Bauchi State and the nation.

Wishing everyone a joyous Christmas and New Year celebration, the Command reaffirmed its readiness to maintain peace and order before, during, and after the festive season.
