Demolitions: Wike Is A Good Man, I Doff My Hat For Him — Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has expressed his approval of the performance of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, commending his efforts to enforce regulations and improve the nation’s capital. Tinubu made these remarks during his first presidential media chat with senior journalists in Lagos on Monday night.
Responding to questions about Wike’s controversial governance style, including the ongoing demolitions of illegal structures and allegations of land grabbing, Tinubu described the FCT Minister as a “good man” and a “performing minister,” lauding his determination to ensure compliance with FCT regulations.
“Nyesom Wike is a good man, he is a performing minister. Nigerians lack compliance, period!” Tinubu stated. “We don’t pay our ground rents on time. We see compliance as inconveniences. I doff my hat for him.”
Wike, who was appointed FCT Minister on August 16, 2023, following his nomination and confirmation by the Senate, has been at the forefront of enforcing urban renewal policies. The former Rivers State governor pledged during his Senate screening to make significant contributions as a minister, assuring Nigerians that Tinubu would not regret nominating him.
“Mr. President will not regret nominating me as a minister in his cabinet,” Wike had stated confidently during his screening.
Since taking office, Wike has initiated policies targeting infrastructural development and urban renewal in the FCT. These actions have sparked both praise for their impact on restoring order and criticism from those affected by his strict enforcement of compliance.
