Boko Haram Bombing Kills 2 Mourners, Injures 3 in Borno

Two people were killed and three others injured when a Boko Haram bomber detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at a gathering of mourners in Dalori, a village in Konduga local government, near Maiduguri in Borno State.

According to credible security sources, the bomber infiltrated the group of mourners on Wednesday and detonated the IED. The mourners were grieving the death of a local resident who had been killed in a Boko Haram attack on the town the previous day. The first attack, which took place on Tuesday, resulted in two injuries.

In response to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Borno State Command, Nahum Daso, confirmed that security forces had restored normalcy to the area. “A bomb attack was reported in Dalori, but normalcy has returned to the area,” he stated.

The bombing in Dalori occurred just one day after the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), a faction of Boko Haram, reportedly launched multiple drone attacks on a military position in Wajiroko, a remote area in the Damboa local government area of Borno State.

Intelligence sources revealed that ISWAP militants carried out a coordinated attack on the military position late on Tuesday, using firearms and later returning with drones equipped with locally-made grenades. The troops stationed in Wajiroko initially repelled the attack, forcing the terrorists to retreat. However, the militants returned with drones, causing injuries to five soldiers and damaging military equipment.

The military has not yet officially confirmed the attack.
