Christmas: Police Arrest 23 Suspected Armed Robbers, Kidnappers, and Criminals

The Nigeria Police Force announced the successful arrest of several suspects, including armed robbers, kidnappers, and cultists, who targeted holiday-goers and engaged in criminal activities during the Christmas celebrations.

In a statement, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed that police operatives across the country made significant arrests in various locations over the holiday period.

The statement highlighted the directive from Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, urging police units nationwide to implement effective anti-crime measures to ensure the safety and security of citizens during the festive season.

Adejobi detailed a major incident on December 25, 2024, around 1 a.m., when police in Lagos received a distress call about a group of armed criminals operating in the Safejo area of Amukoko. A swift police response led to the arrest of three suspects—Emmanuel Okoli (20), Ogunde Tejiri (20), and Emmanuel Orji (18)—who were found with weapons used in robbing innocent people. The police are continuing their search for other members of the gang who managed to escape.

In another development, the police in Kaduna arrested Sule Muhammad, a 25-year-old man, on December 25, 2024, at 8 p.m. Muhammad is believed to be part of a notorious kidnapping gang operating in the Saminaka area. Further investigations led to the discovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle in his possession. Muhammad confessed to being a member of the gang, which had been evading arrest since a previous crackdown in August 2024. The police are now working to apprehend other gang members and recover more weapons from their hideout.

The police also reported similar successes in Delta, Ogun, Katsina, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory, and Imo States, where multiple suspects were arrested in connection to criminal activities during the holidays.

IGP Egbetokun praised the officers involved for their vigilance and dedication to public safety, especially during this festive time. He urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious behavior to the authorities.

The IGP reassured the public that the police are committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment throughout the holiday season, ensuring that the festivities are free from criminal disruptions.
