Power Outage Hits Parts of FCT as TCN Announces Maintenance

A power outage has affected several areas in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carries out scheduled maintenance work at two transmission substations.

According to a statement by Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at TCN, the maintenance will take place on Saturday, December 28, 2024, and Sunday, December 29, 2024, impacting power supply in different parts of Abuja.

On Saturday, TCN engineers will conduct maintenance on a 60MVA power transformer and associated switchgear at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation from 9 am to 1 pm. During this period, Abuja DisCo will not supply power to Gwagwalada and surrounding areas for four hours.

On Sunday, maintenance will take place at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation from 9 am to 10 pm, affecting areas such as Wuye, EFCC, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp.

Mbah acknowledged the inconvenience these power interruptions may cause, particularly during the festive season, but emphasized the importance of the maintenance for the optimal performance of power equipment. TCN has apologized for any disruptions and appreciates the public’s understanding.
