Osun APC, PDP Clash Over Endorsement of Governor Adeleke for Second Term

The endorsement of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, for a second term in office by several prominent Nigerians has sparked a heated dispute between the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Notable figures who have endorsed Governor Adeleke’s re-election include former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, former Osun State governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and various labor unions, among others.

However, the Osun APC has strongly opposed these endorsements, warning that they will not sway the will of the people. The opposition party asserts that the people of Osun have already decided to replace Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election. APC Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, argued that the endorsements did not confer any significant advantage, stating that there is no special reason for the governor and his supporters to celebrate the support.

The APC also accused Adeleke of failing to improve the state, pointing to what they described as his administration’s “brazen infractions” and arguing that the governor knows he is unfit for a second term.

In response, the PDP dismissed the APC’s criticisms, describing the party’s position as the “last kick of a dying horse.” The PDP maintained that the endorsements were well-deserved, reflecting Adeleke’s accomplishments during his first two years in office. PDP Chairman in Osun, Hon. Sunday Bisi, emphasized that Adeleke’s administration had provided relief to many families suffering from the effects of the previous APC-led government. Bisi further criticized the APC for assuming that the people would return to power those who had neglected their welfare and failed to improve infrastructure.
