Navy Rescues 8 Police Officers, Civilian in Bayelsa Boat Mishap
The Nigerian Navy successfully rescued eight police officers and a civilian following a boat mishap in Bayelsa State. The incident occurred on December 24, 2024, when the officers, traveling to Yenagoa, encountered a submerged wreck that caused their speed boat to capsize.
Navy Spokesman, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, reported that personnel deployed near Agbura community promptly carried out a search and rescue operation, retrieving all nine individuals along with their three rifles. Those who sustained injuries received first aid before being transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa for further treatment.
The submerged wreck responsible for the incident was identified and marked to prevent future accidents. The recovered weapons were documented and secured for transfer to the Bayelsa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force.
Commodore Adams-Aliu highlighted the importance of collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and other security agencies, emphasizing the Navy’s commitment to ensuring safety on the country’s waterways. The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, praised the personnel for their swift and professional response, reaffirming the Navy’s dedication to protecting the lives and property of Nigerians in the maritime domain.
