Damboa Attack: Ndume Commends Army’s Resilience, Offers Support to Victims
Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, visited the headquarters of the Nigerian Army’s Joint Task Force, North East, ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ in Maiduguri on Tuesday.
During the visit, Senator Ndume extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the recent Boko Haram attack on Sabon Gari Village, located in the Damboa Local Government Area.
The Senator also took the opportunity to assess the military’s efforts in combating insurgency and praised the forces for their continued dedication to protecting lives and property. He also offered prayers for the swift recovery of those who were injured in the attack.
In a statement issued by the Defence Headquarters on Wednesday, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, confirmed that Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists had launched a large-scale attack on the Sabon Gari community. During the ensuing firefight, joint air and ground forces neutralized over 34 terrorists, though tragically, six soldiers lost their lives in action.
Southern Borno, particularly areas such as Mandara Mountain, Damboa, Biu’s Mandaga Garau, and parts of Ngulde and Ngwahi in Askira/Uba Local Government Area, have long faced persistent insecurity.
During his visit, Senator Ndume held a closed-door meeting with the Theatre Commander of ‘Operation Hadin Kai’, Major General Waidi Shuaibu. The meeting likely addressed recent security breaches, including attacks on Kauji, Wajirko, and Sabon Gari in Damboa Local Government Area, which falls within Ndume’s senatorial district.
Ndume expressed his condolences to the Theatre Commander and the troops, acknowledging the complex security challenges in the region and commending the military’s courage and resilience.
“I deeply appreciate the unwavering commitment and sacrifices of our officers and soldiers in ensuring the safety of our communities. Your resilience is commendable, and we will continue to stand by you,” Ndume said.
The Senator also interacted with the victims of the Damboa attack, offering both moral and financial support to help them recover and rebuild their lives.
