Police Arrest 6 Over Violent Clash in Ekiti

Six suspected hoodlums were arrested by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Ekiti State Police Command on Thursday following a violent clash between two warring groups in Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

The clash reportedly occurred between members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) and commercial motorcycle operators, triggered by the death of a motorcycle ticketing officer. According to sources, members of the motorcycle riders’ association accused the OPC group of being responsible for the officer’s death. The incident occurred near the OPC office in the Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti.

The two groups engaged in violent confrontations, using dangerous weapons such as cutlasses and knives. Police forces were promptly deployed to the scene to restore order.

A source, speaking anonymously, confirmed that the situation escalated when the motorcycle operators alleged that the OPC men were behind the officer’s death. The police acted on a distress call from the area, which reported that hoodlums were attacking and robbing innocent people.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, SP Abutu Sunday, confirmed the arrests, stating that the operatives of the RRS were deployed after the distress call was received at 11:20 AM. The arrested suspects are currently undergoing investigation, while efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the gang.
