Borno Fallen Soldiers Are Eternal Heroes, Nigeria Remains Indebted to Them – VP Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has honored the soldiers who lost their lives while defending against a terrorist attack in Damboa, Borno State, calling them eternal heroes whose sacrifices will never be forgotten.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, Vice President Shettima expressed his heartfelt condolences and solidarity with the families of the fallen soldiers, emphasizing their extraordinary bravery.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President acknowledged the decisive victory achieved by the military in Nigeria’s ongoing counter-terrorism efforts, but lamented the heavy cost of freedom.

“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I received news of our brave soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation in Damboa. These six valiant soldiers demonstrated exceptional courage in the face of danger by protecting their fellow citizens,” he said.

The attack occurred in Sabon Gari, where terrorists attempted to ambush troops stationed at a Forward Operating Base (FOB). The soldiers, supported by reinforcements and air support from Operation HADIN KAI, responded decisively, neutralizing 34 terrorists and recovering weapons and ammunition that severely weakened the attackers.

Vice President Shettima praised the soldiers’ heroism, stating, “Their sacrifices remind us of the extraordinary price of peace and security. These heroes died ensuring that their fellow Nigerians can live in safety, free from the scourge of insecurity that has impacted our country.”

He assured the grieving families that their loved ones’ sacrifices would be remembered forever in the nation’s history and would inspire future generations.

“To our armed forces, your unwavering commitment to protecting our citizens, even at the cost of your own lives, fills us with profound gratitude and respect. We will continue to support you and provide all necessary resources to ensure you can carry out your duties effectively,” Vice President Shettima added.

He also called on all Nigerians to honor the fallen heroes by standing firm in the collective pursuit of peace and security.

“May Allah grant our fallen heroes Aljannah Firdaus, comfort their families, and give us all the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he prayed.
