One Dead, Two Injured as Well Collapses in Kano
A tragic incident occurred in Gargajiga town, Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State, when a well collapsed, resulting in the death of one person and injuring two others.
The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi. According to the statement, the collapse took place at around 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2025, while three men were working to re-dig and repair the well.
The well’s walls caved in, burying one individual and dragging two others who were standing near the edge of the well into the debris.
Bashir Namadi, a local resident, alerted the fire service about the incident, prompting a quick response. A rescue team from the fire service headquarters was dispatched and arrived at the scene at approximately 12:20 p.m.
The team successfully rescued two individuals alive, while the third, identified as 50-year-old Yusuf Nadabo, was pulled from the rubble unconscious and later confirmed dead. The victims were then handed over to the ward head of Gargajiga town for further assistance.
