Kogi Government to Invest N7bn in Revamping 88 Primary Healthcare Centres

The Kogi State Government has committed over N7 billion to the renovation and upgrading of 88 Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state’s 21 local government areas.

Governor Usman Ododo made the announcement during a ceremony in Lokoja, where the state government officially handed over the 88 PHCs to contractors for revitalization. The governor was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdulazeez Adams.

Dr. Adams explained that the new initiative builds on the ongoing rehabilitation of over 70 PHCs, which are at various stages of completion. The project aims to upgrade more than 150 PHCs to fully functional Level-2 health facilities, demonstrating the current administration’s dedication to improving healthcare access across the state.

“This project, which will upgrade 88 additional PHCs, is part of the strategic plan of the Kogi State Government to improve healthcare access in all parts of the state, with invaluable support from the World Bank,” Governor Ododo stated.

He emphasized that the upgrades would significantly contribute to achieving effective healthcare delivery and universal health coverage for the people of Kogi State.

The governor outlined that the N7 billion investment in the 88 PHCs is a crucial step in enhancing healthcare services for Kogi residents. He also encouraged contractors to maintain high standards of professionalism and ensure the projects are completed within four months.

Ododo urged the contractors to collaborate with local government authorities and community stakeholders, promoting an inclusive approach that considers social and environmental safeguards in the project implementation.

He also called on local authorities and community stakeholders to take ownership of the projects, ensuring the protection of personnel, equipment, and the facilities upon completion. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of effective supervision by relevant government bodies, under the coordination of the state Ministry of Health.
