Father Kills, Buries 14-Year-Old Son for Allegedly Disgracing Family

Monday Elela, the father of a 14-year-old boy, Tope Elela, has confessed to killing and burying his son after the boy allegedly engaged in a series of criminal activities, including housebreaking and stealing. The tragic incident occurred in Ajowa Akoko, Akoko North-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, where the father described his late son as the “black sheep” of the family among his seven children.

According to reports, Elela and his wife were arrested by the police after they allegedly killed Tope Elela. The father admitted that he killed the boy and buried him in a shallow grave beneath a banana tree behind their house. Speaking to journalists during his parade by the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi, Elela explained that he had beaten his son after the boy escaped from the custody of the State Security Network, known as Amotekun. He had frequently handed over Tope to Amotekun or local vigilante groups for punishment due to his criminal behavior.

Elela stated, “I did not know that the boy would die when I beat him in the night after he escaped from Amotekun’s custody.” The following morning, the deceased’s siblings discovered that he had died, prompting Elela to bury him in the garden.

The police have arrested Elela, and he was paraded alongside 24 other suspects for various crimes, including murder, cultism, housebreaking, and stealing. The Commissioner of Police also revealed that several suspects were involved in recent cult clashes in Owo, which resulted in five deaths.

Among the arrested individuals was Olamide Ogunseyila, a 28-year-old man who confessed to being a member of a cult group. Other arrests included Gbenga Bisi, 25, the wife of a fugitive known as “Ogodo,” and two others who were found in possession of firearms and ammunition. The police are continuing investigations and efforts to apprehend more suspects involved in the ongoing criminal activities.
