Accidental Bombing: NAF Sends Fact-Finding Team to Zamfara
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, has dispatched a fact-finding team to Zamfara State to investigate the civilian casualties reportedly caused by recent Nigerian Air Force (NAF) airstrikes against terrorists. This decision follows widespread public concern and allegations about the airstrikes’ impact on civilian populations.
A statement from the NAF spokesperson, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, confirmed that the team, led by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Coordination and Cooperation in the Civil-Military Relations Branch, will assess the situation in collaboration with local and state government officials, as well as other relevant stakeholders. The team aims to conduct a thorough evaluation and recommend an appropriate response.
The NAF reassured the public of its commitment to professionalism, transparency, and adherence to international standards in military operations. The statement emphasized the Air Force’s dedication to safeguarding the lives and well-being of Nigerians while continuing efforts to combat terrorism.
“We remain committed to refining our operational procedures to ensure mission success while protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure,” the statement concluded.
