Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has met with a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) fact-finding team assigned to investigate the tragic accidental airstrike in the state.
The team, led by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Coordination and Cooperation in the NAF’s Civil-Military Relations Department, visited the Governor at the Government House in Gusau, the state capital, on Tuesday.
In his address to the governor, Gabkwet assured that the NAF was fully committed to professionalism and transparency in its operations. “We are here to conduct a thorough and objective investigation into the reported incident,” he stated.
The visit follows the tragic January 11 airstrike on the Tungar Kara community in Maradun Local Government Area, which resulted in the unintended deaths of over 16 residents.
In a prior statement, Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa, Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, reaffirmed the Air Force’s dedication to uncovering the truth surrounding the incident.
Following their meeting with Governor Lawal, the NAF team traveled to Tungar Kara to conduct an on-the-spot assessment of the situation and its aftermath.
