The Kogi State Government has awarded contracts for the rehabilitation and maintenance of 106.36 kilometers of rural farm roads under the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP). Valued at ₦6,387,454,983.00, this initiative is set to improve road accessibility and enhance agricultural productivity across the state.

The contract signing ceremony, held on Monday in Lokoja, was marked by a sense of excitement and optimism, reflecting the government’s commitment to advancing infrastructure development.

Speaking at the event, State Project Coordinator Engineer Sheidu Obansa expressed confidence in the contractors chosen for the project and reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to rural development under Governor Usman Ododo. The projects were awarded to reputable construction companies following a thorough evaluation process. The successful contractors include Philko Limited, K-Class Multi-Global Engineering Construction Company JV, Ferotex Construction Limited, Zarcus Construction Limited, and NAEL and Bin Harmal Hydro Export Nigeria Limited (NBHH). Each contractor is tasked with ensuring high-quality work and timely project completion.

“In addition to the road rehabilitation contracts, the government has allocated ₦713,458,813.97 for interventions in cross-drainage structures across 66 locations. These critical drainage works will be handled by G-Ariths Engineering Limited, Swaleys Nigeria Limited, and Simat Construction and Civil Engineering,” the statement read.

Engineer Obansa assured the contractors of the state’s full support in facilitating efficient and timely project execution. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the highest quality standards throughout the duration of the work.

Engineer AbdulBasit Musa, the project’s Infrastructure Engineer, also spoke at the event, urging strong collaboration between the contractors and the State Project Implementation Unit (SPIU). He assured that all necessary resources and expertise would be provided to ensure the success of these transformative projects.

On behalf of the contractors, Mohammed Ibrahim of Philko Limited expressed a strong commitment to adhering to project timelines and ensuring quality delivery. He thanked the state government for the opportunity to contribute to its vision for rural development, noting that the projects aim to foster economic growth, improve livelihoods, and enhance rural accessibility in line with the government’s development agenda.

Ibrahim also mentioned that this contract award follows a similar initiative from October of the previous year, where contracts for 65.25 kilometers of rural roads were awarded, and civil works are currently in progress.

These combined efforts underscore the Kogi State Government’s commitment to addressing infrastructure deficits, paving the way for economic transformation and sustainable development in rural communities.
