‘My Life Got Better After My Mohbad’s Death’, Says Father
Joseph Aloba, the father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has opened up about how his life improved significantly after the sudden death of his son. In a heartfelt interview with media personality Akin Abolade, known as Mrlilgaga, Aloba revealed that he felt his life transformed after Mohbad’s passing.
“Let me just say yes, my life got better after Mohbad’s death because he was my friend. He had it in plan to do many things for me, but they didn’t allow him to do them. After his death, it was the spirit of Mohbad and that of God combined together that began to send people to assist me,” Aloba said.
Aloba shared how the support he has received from Nigerians has been overwhelming and has greatly changed his life. “Even the car and everything I have now, it was people that gave them to me, and it is beyond ordinary. So it is the spirit of Mohbad and God that led those people to give me all I have now,” he added.
Reflecting on the challenges Mohbad faced during his lifetime, Aloba alleged that his son’s wife, Wunmi, and her family members played a significant role in controlling his late son’s properties. He mentioned that “all his landed property is in their possession,” including the land Mohbad bought for him to build a church, which was later used as the site for his burial.
Aloba revealed that Mohbad had plans to buy a house after completing his tour and had already paid in full for it before his untimely death. He also narrated how Mohbad began supporting him as a child, starting as a backup singer at the age of one.
“The birth of Mohbad led me to become a singer after the money from the naming ceremony was stolen,” Aloba explained. He described himself as a carpenter, singer, and pastor, though he no longer runs a church, which Mohbad had promised to build for him.
During the interview, Aloba proudly showcased his new block industry, a truck, and a Toyota Highlander—gifts from compassionate Nigerians who were moved by his plight after his son’s death.
Since Mohbad’s passing on September 11, 2023, at the age of 26, Aloba revealed that he has released nine songs in tribute to his late son.
Mohbad’s death has remained surrounded by controversy, particularly regarding the arrest of a nurse, reported by Mohbad’s wife, who allegedly administered a tetanus vaccine to the singer. The Lagos State Police Command later confirmed that the nurse was unlicensed.
Aloba’s heartfelt words offer a glimpse into his life post-Mohbad’s death, which has been marked by both grief and unexpected support from the public.
