Zulum Pays Sympathy Visit to Baga, Warns Against Collusion with Terrorists

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has issued a stern warning to farming and fishing communities in Baga, urging them to avoid any form of collaboration with Boko Haram insurgents.

Governor Zulum delivered the message during a visit to Baga town on Wednesday, where he expressed his condolences for the recent attack in Dumba community and urged residents to adhere strictly to military regulations to ensure their safety.

“I urge the people of Baga and surrounding communities to conduct their farming activities only within areas approved by the military. While we encourage agricultural efforts, it is crucial that our people remain law-abiding and follow the guidelines set by the military and Borno State government,” Governor Zulum said.

The governor condemned the actions of those colluding with insurgents, calling it “unacceptable” and a direct threat to the region’s stability.

During his visit, Zulum also inspected a 2,000-hectare solar-powered irrigation system in Mile 3, used for cultivating wheat and cassava. He praised the project as a key step in enhancing food security and promoting sustainable farming in Borno State.

“This solar irrigation scheme is a game-changer. It will significantly boost agricultural production, reduce costs, and help us move towards food sufficiency,” Zulum stated.

The governor highlighted that similar projects had been launched in other parts of Borno, including Damasak and Ngala, and emphasized their alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s vision of improving food security and livelihoods in Nigeria.

Zulum also reassured the people of Borno that his administration would continue to invest in key agricultural sectors, such as wheat and cassava, where the state has a comparative advantage. He also mentioned that after the wheat harvest, the land would be converted to cassava cultivation.

In Kukawa town, the governor was warmly received by residents, who expressed their gratitude for ongoing reconstruction efforts in education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He also visited troops at the 101 Special Forces Battalion, praising their bravery and promising continued support from the state government.

The visit followed the brutal attack on Dumba community by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP militants on January 12, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of about 40 farmers. Many others who fled the attack remain missing, and efforts are underway to reunite them with their families.
