Corps Member Donates Caregivers’ Lounge to Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja

A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kogi State, Miss Eze Priscillia Arukwe, has donated a Caregivers’ Waiting Lounge to the Federal Teaching Hospital Lokoja (FTHL). The lounge, valued at over N2.5 million, was officially commissioned by the Maigari of Lokoja, HRH Dr. Ibrahim Gambo-Kabir, Maikairfi IV, during an event held at the hospital.

Commendations and Praise

In his remarks at the commissioning ceremony, the Maigari of Lokoja praised Miss Arukwe for her resilience, humility, and dedication to community development. He emphasized the importance of impactful projects that address societal needs and called Miss Arukwe’s initiative a model for others to follow.

“This project is a clear example of how individuals can make a meaningful difference in their communities,” the royal father stated. “I urge others to follow her footsteps and contribute to the growth and well-being of our society.”

The State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr. Femi Osungbohun, also lauded Miss Arukwe’s efforts, describing the project as a shining example of the NYSC’s core values of unity and community service. He encouraged other corps members to identify the needs of their host communities, collaborate with stakeholders, and execute similar impactful projects.

A Symbol of Commitment to Humanity

The Chief Medical Director of FTH Lokoja, Dr. Olatunde Alabi, expressed his gratitude for the project, describing Miss Arukwe as a productive and selfless corps member. He emphasized that her donation demonstrated a remarkable commitment to community development and to improving the welfare of caregivers who often endure difficult moments while caring for their loved ones in the hospital.

The Vision Behind the Project

Miss Arukwe explained that the idea for the Caregivers’ Waiting Lounge was inspired by her desire to serve humanity and provide caregivers with a comfortable and dignified space during their challenging times. She thanked God for the opportunity to serve and expressed her gratitude to her family, NGOs, the Maigari of Lokoja, and other generous donors who contributed to making the project a reality.

“The inspiration behind this project was driven by my purpose and commitment to God and humanity. It was conceived to provide caregivers and patients’ relatives with a dignified and comfortable relaxing space during their challenging moments while caring for their loved ones,” Miss Arukwe said.

The lounge was built with funds from her personal savings, as well as donations from her family and other supporters, totaling over N2.5 million.

Public Gratitude

One of the caregivers, Halimat Wozili, who was looking after her sick brother at the hospital, expressed her appreciation for the initiative, praying that God blesses Miss Arukwe for her generosity.

Miss Arukwe’s sister, Oyinyechi Arukwe, who attended the ceremony from Lagos, also thanked all the sponsors and contributors who made the project a success.

The Caregivers’ Lounge has now been officially handed over to the Medical Social Department of FTH Lokoja for management and sustainability.

Background on the Donor

Miss Eze Priscillia Arukwe, a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, is a serving corps member with the state code KG/24A/0752. She hails from Arochukwu Local Government Area in Abia State. The donation of the Caregivers’ Lounge is a testament to her selflessness and commitment to community service during her NYSC tenure.
