Tinubu Mourns House of Reps’ Deputy Chief Whip, Onanuga

President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives and representative of the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State.

Onanuga passed away on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after a brief illness. She was a prominent figure in the Nigerian legislative system, having served as the Chairperson of the House Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development during the 9th Assembly and later as Deputy Chief Whip in the 10th Assembly.

A Legacy of Service

President Tinubu, in a statement released by his spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, described the late lawmaker as a tireless servant of her people. “She never stopped serving her constituency, and her passion for building a better Nigeria will remain unforgettable in the hearts of those who came in direct contact with her,” the President stated.

Tinubu further praised Onanuga for her role as a role model for women in politics, noting that she had demonstrated through her work that with hard work, integrity, and dedication to just causes, women can be effective leaders in the political arena.

Condolences and Prayers

On behalf of the Federal Government, President Tinubu extended his deepest condolences to Onanuga’s family, her loved ones, the government, and people of Ogun State, particularly her constituents in Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North.

The President prayed that God would grant the soul of the late legislator eternal rest and provide comfort to her family and all who mourn her loss.

Hon. Onanuga’s death is a significant loss to Nigeria’s political landscape, especially for her contributions to the welfare of women and the development of the country.
