Body of Second Drowned EKSU Student Recovered in Ekiti
Just under 24 hours after the discovery of the first body, authorities have located and recovered the body of the second student from Ekiti State University (EKSU), who had been missing after a drowning incident last weekend.
The two undergraduates, Oluwatobiloba Osho and Oladimeji Victor, both students of the Department of Theatre Arts at EKSU, were reported to have drowned in Ero Dam at Ikun Ekiti, located in the Moba local government area of Ekiti State, while swimming.
On Monday, Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Abutu, confirmed the recovery of the second body. The corpse was discovered floating at approximately 10:45 a.m. on January 20, 2025, in Ero Dam. “The second body of the reportedly drowned student was found around 10:45hrs today, and was promptly retrieved and taken to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Ido-Ekiti for preservation,” he said.
Abutu also added that an investigation has been launched to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the deaths of the two students.
It was gathered that Osho and Victor, along with their colleagues and a supervisor, had traveled to Igogo Ekiti, a neighboring community, for research and rehearsal activities. After the supervisor and other team members concluded their work and left Igogo, the two students reportedly stayed behind and decided to visit the nearby dam for sightseeing, where the tragic incident occurred.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
