Police Arrest 2 Over Alleged Vandalism, Car Theft in Sokoto
The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested two individuals on allegations of vandalism and motorcycle theft in the state.
The suspects, Imrana Umar from Minanata and Isah Usman from the Makera Asada area, were taken into custody after separate incidents of theft and vandalism.
Theft of Motorcycle in Diplomat Area
The first incident occurred on January 13, 2025, when the police received a distress call from the Diplomat Area of Sokoto. Community members reported that a suspected thief had been caught and was about to be lynched by an angry mob.
The Sokoto Police Strike Force quickly responded to the scene and rescued Imrana Umar. During questioning, Umar admitted to breaking into the home of Abdulhamid Muhammad and stealing his TVS motorcycle.
Vandalism and Theft of School Equipment
In a separate incident, the Strike Force Unit received another distress call from the Vigilante Group of Kofar Kware Area in Sokoto. The call informed the police that Isah Usman had been intercepted while attempting to sell stolen goods. Usman was found with four ceiling fans and pieces of electrical wires.
Upon further investigation, Usman confessed that he had stolen the items from Hafsatu Girls Secondary School and Ila’il Academy Arkilla in Sokoto. His intention was to sell the stolen items to a man named Yunusa, who resides in Kuffa Area and is currently at large.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Action
The Sokoto Police Command has confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend Yunusa, the individual who is believed to be involved in the illicit transactions.
The arrested suspects, Umar and Usman, are expected to face legal proceedings once their interrogations are completed. The police assured that the duo would be prosecuted in court, pending the conclusion of investigations.
