Gov Fubara, Wike, Others Meet Tinubu Over Rivers Issues
President Bola Tinubu held a high-level meeting with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, and leaders from Ogoni land in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting was attended by several prominent political figures, including Senators Lee Maeba, Magnus Abe, Olaka Nwogu, and Bennett Birabi, as well as Chief Victor Giadom, Chief Kenneth Kobani, and Monsignor Pius Kii, among others from the Rivers State delegation. Additionally, some cabinet members from President Tinubu’s administration were present, including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila, Minister of Information and National Orientation Idris Mohammed, Minister of Regional Development Abubakar Momoh, and Minister of Environment Balarabe Abbas. Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPCL), was also in attendance.
While the specific agenda of the meeting has not been disclosed, it is believed to be related to critical issues concerning Ogoni land, such as the ongoing Ogoni clean-up initiative and the potential resumption of oil exploration in the region. The Ogoni clean-up has been a long-awaited project, given the environmental devastation caused by oil spills in the area, and discussions may center on ways to address these concerns while balancing economic development, particularly in the oil and gas sector.
At this time, further details on the discussions or outcomes of the meeting remain unclear.
