Synergy Among Security Agencies Crucial In Fighting Insecurity, Says Al-Hikmah VC
The Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Prof. Noah Yusuf, has stressed the importance of fostering stronger collaboration among security agencies in the country to effectively combat insecurity and safeguard lives and property.
Prof. Yusuf made the statement on Tuesday during a one-day capacity-building workshop organized by the university’s Centre for Peace and Security Studies in Ilorin, Kwara State. The event aimed to address key issues in peace and conflict management.
He emphasized that the need for synergy among the country’s security agencies cannot be overstated in the face of rising security challenges. “Synergy among our security agencies is very important in reducing insecurity in our society. As you observed here today, virtually all security agencies were present, and this is very good for our country. We need more of this,” he stated.
The workshop, titled “Peace and Conflict Management Capacity Building Retreat,” was initiated by Prof. Yusuf upon his assumption of office as vice chancellor. It was designed specifically for post-graduate students and offered five different courses on peace and security studies.
Earlier, Dr. Adekola AbdulAzeez, Acting Director of the Centre for Peace Studies, highlighted the center’s efforts to strengthen its contributions to promoting peaceful coexistence in Nigeria. He revealed that the center is nearing the completion of a partnership arrangement with the Nigeria Police to serve as a resource institution for the Police Intelligence College, located in Kwara. This collaboration is aimed at training police officers on a non-kinetic approach to conflict and security management, further solidifying the center’s commitment to peace-building initiatives.
The workshop is part of a broader effort to provide security agencies and other stakeholders with the knowledge and tools to better manage conflicts and promote lasting peace across the country.
