Police Arrest Military Impersonators, Recover 134 Firearms
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have successfully apprehended several individuals impersonating military personnel and defrauding members of the public. The suspects, including Muhammed Kabir (36), Donald Okpere, and Haruna Ibrahim, were arrested for using fake military alerts to purchase items such as gadgets and medical equipment, defrauding victims of millions of naira in the process.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, credited the arrests to the Nigeria Police Force’s enhanced strategies in combating various forms of criminal activities across the country.
In addition to the military impersonators, the police also arrested members of a notorious gang involved in stealing motorcycles from farmers in Lagos and Ogun States. The suspects—Sunday Okwo Ade, Monday Solomon, David Emmanuel, and Shakiru Badmus—were apprehended with 15 stolen motorcycles.
ACP Adejobi provided further details on the Force’s ongoing efforts to reduce crime, highlighting the arrest of 179 suspects linked to armed robbery, 100 connected to kidnapping, and 152 involved in murder or homicide. The police also made significant progress in other areas, including:
- The arrest of 34 suspects for the unlawful possession of prohibited firearms
- The arrest of 77 rape suspects
- The detention of 110 suspected cultists
- The recovery of 73 firearms and 310 rounds of various ammunition
In addition to these achievements, the police recovered 56 stolen vehicles and successfully rescued 22 individuals who had been kidnapped.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to upholding its core principles of policing, which include safeguarding the lives and property of citizens while ensuring the creation of a peaceful environment for the public.
“The Force will remain unwavering in its pursuit of criminal elements, ensuring that justice is served in accordance with the law,” stated ACP Adejobi, echoing the IGP’s commitment to keeping the nation safe from criminal activity.
