Gov. Okpebholo Orders EDSTMA to Address Indiscriminate Parking, Traffic Gridlock in Edo

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has directed the Managing Director of the Edo State Traffic Control and Management Agency (EDSTMA), Engr. Stainless Ijeghede, to take immediate action to curb the indiscriminate parking of vehicles and the traffic gridlock, particularly in market areas across the state.

Governor Okpebholo issued the directive during the decoration of Engr. Ijeghede, as he officially assumed the role of Managing Director of EDSTMA.

Addressing Ijeghede and the agency’s personnel at the Exco Chambers of the Government House in Benin City, the governor emphasized the importance of maintaining a smooth flow of traffic throughout the state. He called on the agency to tackle the issue of poorly parked vehicles and buses, especially around market areas, which have become notorious for contributing to heavy traffic congestion.

“Edo State belongs to all of us, and whatever we do should be done with care, without causing harm to anyone. I urge EDSTMA to ensure that the city is kept in order. Every time I drive around town, I see vehicles parked everywhere, making the city appear disorganized,” Governor Okpebholo said.

He added, “This is your primary responsibility. You must ensure the city is well-kept and that vehicles are parked properly. The traffic is not flowing as it should, causing serious gridlock. Are you not doing your job well? Or is it because of a new leadership that traffic isn’t moving? You must wake up and keep the state clean.”

Governor Okpebholo further stressed the need for the agency to focus on monitoring market areas, where poorly parked vehicles and buses often create significant traffic disruptions. “The people of Edo are suffering from this. You must ensure that traffic flows freely to improve the lives of the citizens,” he concluded.

In response, Engr. Stainless Ijeghede thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve the people of Edo State. He assured the governor of EDSTMA’s commitment to professionalism and promised to work diligently to ensure a free flow of traffic across the state.
