Adamawa Gov’t Solicits Support to Tackle Crisis of Climate Change
Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, has called for a collective effort to support the government’s initiatives in addressing the challenges posed by climate change in the state. Farauta made the appeal when she received Kannywood celebrities who were in the state to advocate for tree planting sustainability on Friday.
The Deputy Governor expressed concern over the increasing deforestation and the indiscriminate disposal of waste, both of which significantly contribute to climate change and rising global temperatures. She emphasized the importance of tackling these issues as part of efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change in Adamawa and across the country.
Farauta noted that the visit of the Kannywood celebrities was timely, as it provided an opportunity for them to raise awareness about the ongoing progress in improving Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) in the state. She also highlighted the role of tree planting in environmental sustainability, assuring that the trees planted by the government through the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) program would be properly cared for.
“The Kannywood celebrities are making us proud in the entertainment industry. They are here to support us during our monthly sanitation efforts,” Farauta said. “We assured them that all the trees planted by the government are being maintained as part of our tree planting advocacy.”
Mansur Isa, the National President of the Network of Advocates for the Protection and Sustenance of Green Environment, also commended the government’s policies and programs aimed at promoting environmental sustainability in Adamawa. He pointed out that a dirty environment contributes to the spread of diseases like malaria, especially when plastic waste is allowed to accumulate in communities.
“We need to keep our environment clean at all times to ensure good health,” Isa stated. “Kannywood is always ready to support efforts aimed at raising awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean environment.”
The Kannywood delegation, which included celebrities such as Mansura Isa, Hadiza Mohammed Sani, Ladidi Abdullahi, Salma Iliyasu, and Babale Hayatu, expressed their commitment to supporting environmental sustainability advocacy and encouraging residents to keep their surroundings clean.
The state’s call for united action to combat climate change and maintain a clean environment underscores the importance of collective responsibility in addressing the growing environmental crisis.
