AI Should Enhance, Not Replace the Human Touch in Education — First Lady
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu, has advocated for a balanced approach to the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, stressing that technology should enhance, not replace, the essential human touch in the learning process.
In a statement marking the International Day of Education, Senator Tinubu highlighted the theme for this year’s celebration—“AI and Education: Human Agency in an Automated World”—describing it as a timely reminder of the vital role AI plays in modern education.
“AI can be a powerful tool for empowerment, helping to foster critical thinking, creativity, and emotional intelligence,” the First Lady said. “However, it is crucial that AI never replaces the irreplaceable human element in education.”
She urged educators and policymakers to create inclusive curricula that not only incorporate AI literacy but also preserve core values such as compassion and human connection. “Striking this balance will ensure that students are equipped to succeed in an increasingly automated world,” she added.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s progress in the education sector, Senator Tinubu acknowledged improvements in access to quality learning. However, she emphasized the need for continued investment to address persistent challenges and empower future generations.
“As a nation, we must prioritize education to secure a brighter future for our children and ensure no child is left behind, regardless of their background,” she stated.
The International Day of Education, observed globally, aims to highlight education as a cornerstone for peace and sustainable development.
