Breaking News: Kano Anti-Corruption Boss Rimingado Arrested in Major Corruption Case
Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, the chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), has been arrested in connection with a significant corruption scandal involving the alleged diversion of more than N4 billion.
A source within the commission confirmed his arrest on Friday, revealing, “He was apprehended today and is likely to be transferred to Abuja.”
The arrest was carried out by police officers led by ASP Ahmed Bello.
Rimingado’s detention appears to be linked to the ongoing trial of Bala Muhammed Inuwa, the former Managing Director of Kano Agricultural Supply Company Limited (KASCO). The trial, which began in November 2023 at the Kano State High Court under Justice Hafsat Yahaya, has already resulted in the seizure of various properties, including funds from bank accounts, suspected to be connected to embezzled public funds.
In December 2023, the case took a new turn when Inuwa filed a suit before Justice Aisha Ya’u of another Kano State High Court, seeking the removal of police officers stationed at Limestone Processing Links Ltd., where the confiscated properties were being secured. Justice Ya’u granted the request, ordering the officers’ removal.
The PCACC opposed this decision, arguing that it was not included in the suit, despite being the rightful custodian of the confiscated assets. The commission filed an appeal for a stay of execution and pushed for its involvement in the proceedings, stressing that the police had been securing the assets on its behalf.
During a recent press briefing, Rimingado revealed that the commission had thwarted an attempt to relocate seized assets worth over N2 billion. These assets, which include trailers, trucks, and minivans, were moved from Kumbotso Local Government Area to a government warehouse in Nasarawa GRA. Rimingado emphasized that this move was in accordance with Section 40 of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Law.
At the time of writing, further details surrounding Rimingado’s arrest remained unclear.
