Boko Haram Kills Army Commander, 19 Soldiers in Borno, Days After Massacre of 20 Fishermen
Just two days after Boko Haram killed 20 fishermen in the Gadan Gari fishing community in Bama, Borno State, the terror group has reportedly claimed the lives of an Army Commander, two senior officers, and 17 soldiers at a military base in Malam-Fatori, located in the northern part of the state, near the Niger border.
The attack occurred on Friday, January 24, 2025, when Boko Haram terrorists launched a sustained assault on the 149 Battalion in Malam-Fatori, the headquarters of Abadam local government area. Sources confirmed that the terrorists used multiple gun trucks during the assault, causing widespread destruction, including the burning of buildings and military vehicles. The survivors of the attack were forced to flee the base.
Intelligence reports indicated that several soldiers were killed, with many others injured. As of Saturday, the number of missing personnel was still unclear. Among the dead were the battalion’s commanding officer, two senior officers, and the base’s medical director.
This deadly attack follows an earlier raid on the military’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Damboa, Borno State, where several soldiers were killed, and many others are believed to be missing. In yet another attack over the weekend, the 25 Taskforce Brigade was targeted, with over seven bodies recovered so far.
According to sources, the terrorists launched the attack on FOB Sabon Gari around 4 a.m., using a variety of weapons, and left numerous casualties in their wake.
