‘I Am Now Known As Man Who Makes Things Disappear’, Abia Rep Ikwechegh Boasts

Alex Mascot Ikwechegh, the member of the House of Representatives for Aba North & South federal constituency of Abia State, recently appeared on Channels Television’s breakfast show, where he proudly stated that he is now known as “the man who makes things disappear.” The statement comes after a controversial incident in October 2024, in which he was seen assaulting a Bolt driver, Stephen Abuwatseya, in a viral video.

Ikwechegh, who represents the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said that although the incident was unfortunate, it served as an opportunity for him to build a friendship with Abuwatseya. He noted that the two have since become friends, and he has also formed a bond with the driver’s Bishop and pastor.

“The video that everybody saw was a low moment for me, but I take it as an avenue for me as a person to also build a relationship with the young man. Today, we are friends,” Ikwechegh explained, adding that the case had been taken to court, but the court found no merit and subsequently struck it out.

He further elaborated that while the video showcased his reaction, it didn’t reflect the full context of the situation. “People do not know what happened before that reaction. Like they say, actions pre-empt reactions,” he said.

Ikwechegh asserted that despite the incident, it does not define who he is. “I’ve been in the public space for a very long time, and there has never been any scandal about me,” he added.

Regarding the viral video, where Ikwechegh was seen angrily confronting Abuwatseya and making threatening remarks, the lawmaker downplayed the incident, claiming, “Today, the whole of Nigeria knows me as the man that makes things disappear,” and emphasized that he has moved on from the incident.

Despite the public backlash following the viral video in 2024, where Ikwechegh was criticized for assaulting the driver, he remains confident that the past is behind him and he has learned from the situation.
