We’re Prepared To Welcome Deported Nigerians From US — Federal Gov’t

The Federal Government has stated its readiness to welcome Nigerians who may be deported from the United States following a recent immigration crackdown. The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) made this known, with its Director of Media and Corporate Affairs, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, confirming that preparations are underway to handle any potential deportations.

Balogun explained in an interview on Tuesday that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for managing such matters. He also mentioned that the government has set up an inter-agency committee to coordinate the process should there be a large-scale deportation of Nigerians from the U.S. This committee includes representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NIDCOM, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).

While Balogun confirmed the government’s preparedness, he clarified that NIDCOM has not yet received any specific information regarding Nigerians currently being processed for deportation in the U.S.

The statement comes amid reports that approximately 3,690 Nigerians in the U.S. are at risk of deportation following a crackdown by the Trump administration. According to a document from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), countries like Mexico and El Salvador top the list of nations facing the most deportations, but Nigeria is also prominently mentioned in the statistics, underscoring the extent of the ongoing immigration enforcement actions.
