Ebonyi Debunks Probe Of Gov Nwifuru’s Aide Over Alleged N200m Contract Scam
The Ebonyi State Government has dismissed claims that Mr. Chukwuma Nwiboko, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Governor Francis Nwifuru on Project Monitoring, has been arrested and detained by security agents over an alleged N200 million contract scam.
In a statement released by the Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Mr. Leo Oketa, the government clarified that Nwiboko was neither arrested nor under investigation, refuting media reports that suggested he had been detained for three days in connection with the contract issue. Oketa emphasized that these reports were false and misleading.
The statement further clarified that Nwiboko had not been awarded any contract, let alone one of such magnitude. According to Oketa, Nwiboko’s role involves monitoring ongoing government projects, including those related to the construction of duplexes for traditional rulers in the state. The governor, Oketa said, is actively investigating the execution of these contracts to ensure that any contractors who fail to meet their obligations are held accountable.
He also explained that Nwiboko’s brief visit to the police station was simply as a witness in the investigation of certain contractors and not as a suspect. Nwiboko continues to perform his duties as directed by the governor, and the government is focused on fulfilling its responsibilities to the people of Ebonyi without room for error.
This clarification aims to put to rest rumors surrounding the SSA and reaffirm the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability in its projects.
