Alaafin Of Oyo Dissolves Unauthorised Coronation Committee

A committee purportedly set up by certain individuals for the coronation of the new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Abimbola Owoade, has been disbanded by the monarch.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Oba Owoade clarified that the committee did not have his approval. He emphasized that no committee or event related to his coronation would be recognized without the prior consent of the Oyo palace.

The statement, titled “Coronation Committee Setup in Oyo Town-Notice of Cease & Desist,” outlined that any activities or meetings organized by the unauthorized committee were considered illegal. The monarch made it clear that such actions would not be tolerated.

He further stated, “Let it be known to all and sundry that any committee or activity being set up or promoted without the prior consent and approval of His Imperial Majesty and his office shall be deemed unauthorized and will not be allowed to exist.”

Oba Owoade also clarified that any fundraising related to the coronation would be at the discretion of the royal family, and only the official committee, if necessary, would be determined by the palace.

While appreciating the efforts of those who sought to contribute, the monarch assured them that they would be informed of any developments should their involvement become necessary. He concluded by reiterating that all initiatives related to the coronation must receive clearance from the palace before being publicly announced.
