JUST-IN: Gunmen Abduct ABSIEC Chairman in Imo
Gunmen have abducted Professor George Chima, the chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC), at his residence in Okigwe, Imo State, on Friday.
Reports indicate that Prof. Chima was hosting lecturers from Abia State University, Uturu, when four gunmen, believed to be kidnappers, stormed the house. They harassed his guests before abducting him and taking him to an undisclosed location.
The gunmen reportedly stole a vehicle carrying wood after their attempt to use Prof. Chima’s car, which was being washed by his driver, failed.
The Imo State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation had been launched.
“Yes, we are aware of the kidnapping of Prof. Chima, and we have commenced investigations. As I speak to you, the Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, is personally leading the team to Okigwe, and we are determined to apprehend those responsible,” Okoye assured.
