NDYC Condemns Amaechi’s ‘Call For Violence’
The Niger Delta Youth Congress (NDYC) has strongly condemned the recent statements made by former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, in which he allegedly urged Nigerians to use “brutal force” to seize power from President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
The group described Amaechi’s comments as a direct attack on democracy and an incitement to violence, warning that such rhetoric will not be tolerated. In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Israel Uwejeyan, the NDYC stated that it would resist any attempt by Amaechi or any politician to provoke anarchy through dangerous and reckless statements.
The group condemned Amaechi’s claim that politicians must be prepared to “steal, maim, and kill” to maintain power, labeling it as irresponsible and reflective of a dangerous mindset. The NDYC accused Amaechi of resorting to desperate, treasonous rhetoric due to his political irrelevance and sidelining, and warned that the group would not allow him to sow chaos in the country for selfish political gain.
The statement also criticized Amaechi’s tenure as Governor of Rivers State, claiming it was marked by mismanagement, abandoned projects, and political instability. The group pointed to the Port Harcourt Monorail project as an example of the wasteful spending under his leadership.
In addition, the NDYC warned against the destabilization of Rivers State or the Niger Delta for Amaechi’s personal ambitions, emphasizing the region’s commitment to peace, democracy, and national unity. It also called on security agencies to investigate and prosecute Amaechi for his inciting statements, insisting that no individual is above the law.
The group made it clear that any attempt to undermine Nigeria’s democracy would be met with stiff resistance, reaffirming its commitment to defending peace and the country’s progress. The NDYC concluded by stating that the Niger Delta people would not be manipulated into participating in any political chaos, and that the country’s forward progress would not be derailed by individuals who thrive on disorder.
