UNILORIN Promotes 51 Academic Staff, Appoints 20 Professors and 31 Readers

The Governing Council of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has approved the promotion of 51 academic staff to the prestigious positions of Professors and Readers.

Twenty staff members have been elevated to the rank of Professors, while 31 senior lecturers were promoted to Readers.

Among the newly appointed professors is Ismail Adua, who has become Nigeria’s first professor of International Aviation Law. Also promoted is Nusirat Elelu, the executive secretary of Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, who has made history as the first professor of Veterinary Medicine at UNILORIN. Additionally, Kamaldeen Omopupa, the University’s Librarian, was also appointed as a professor.

Other new professors include: Olufunmilayo Abiodun, Fausat Kolawole, A.G. Animasawun, A.S. Afolabi, E.E. Anyebe, and H.M. Omokanye. Further appointments to the rank of professor were made for L.K. Mustapha, Kehinde Kadir, A.O. Akanbi, J.A. Adeniran, Olubunmi A. Mokuolu, and O.A. Iyiola, as well as Shakirat Bello, A.A. Kilishi, A.Y. Ahmed, O.A. Fawole, and L.O. Raji.

The promotion followed recommendations made by the Appointments and Promotions Committee of the university, which were presented to the university’s Governing Council at its meeting on Monday, January 27, 2025, by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN).

Registrar of the institution, Mansur Alfa-Nla, confirmed the promotions in a statement, noting the significant achievements of the newly appointed professors and readers.
