EFCC Urges Student Leaders to Collaborate in Combating Internet Fraud

The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has called for collaboration between the Commission and student union leaders in higher education institutions across Nigeria to fight economic and financial crimes. He emphasized that such partnerships would play a crucial role in driving public awareness and reinforcing commitment to anti-corruption initiatives.

Olukoyede made the call in Benin City, Edo State, during an interactive session with the Student Union Executives of the University of Benin on Friday, January 31, 2025. The student leaders were on a courtesy visit to the Benin Zonal Directorate of the EFCC.

Speaking through the Acting Zonal Director of the Benin Zonal Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE I), Effa Imoh Okim, Olukoyede highlighted the importance of collaboration with student unions to tackle the growing problem of internet fraud.

β€œLet’s work together to combat the menace of economic and financial crimes, especially internet fraud, which is tarnishing the reputation of our country. As student leaders, you are the future leaders of Nigeria. We want to harness your energy and strength to build a better Nigeria. What we are doing at the EFCC is to safeguard your future from criminals who want to destroy it,” he said.

Olukoyede urged the student leaders to reject internet fraud and other forms of criminal behavior, stressing that their future remains bright as long as they engage in legitimate activities. He further encouraged them to spread the message within their universities that there is no shortcut to wealth, reinforcing the importance of integrity and hard work.
