Suspended Ogun Monarch Arraigned For Assaulting 73-Year-Old Chief
The suspended Olorile of Orile-Ifo, Oba Semiu Adewale Ogunjobi, was arraigned by the Ogun State Police Command on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting 73-year-old Chief Abraham Areola.
Oba Ogunjobi faced a three-count charge, including conspiracy, assault, and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace. The charges stem from an incident captured in a viral video, where the traditional ruler was seen verbally attacking and threatening the elderly chief.
Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the monarch’s arraignment and the charges against him. He stated, “The Kabiyesi Abdulsemiu Ogunjobi, who assaulted one elderly man in a viral video in Ifo, Ogun State, has been charged to court today, February 4, 2025.”
The monarch was granted bail following the court session, and the case has been adjourned to March 6, 2025, for further proceedings. Adejobi assured the public that the police remain committed to upholding justice and the rule of law.
The viral video showing the monarch cursing Chief Areola, threatening to bury him if he died, and boasting about his influence over the Nigeria Police, sparked public outrage. Many criticized the monarch’s actions as humiliating and inappropriate.
